McDonnell Counselling offers rationale, compassionate psychotherapy for youth, young adults and adults, family therapy, critical incident response and sport performance counselling. Counselling therapy assists people experiencing difficulties in relationships, or within themselves, and enhances their growth and well-being. The process includes making use of relational, conversational, somatic, expressive or educational methods and techniques, informed by established counselling and psychotherapeutic theories, research, ethical standards, human diversity and the range of human traditions.
In the early 1990’s, Greg volunteered at a summer camp for youth and teens with cancer. This experience profoundly changed his perspective and outlook on life. He learned what it meant to truly live life, and discovered that he wanted to pursue a career working with people. The lessons learned at this camp remain close to him and are a touchstone for his life and work: share gratitude, live in the present, laugh often, and practice loving kindness.
Greg completed a Bachelors degree at Simon Fraser University in 1996, and began a 15 year career working as a Youth Outreach Worker with youth, young adults and families.
For 5 years, Greg was the Executive Director of the Whistler Community Services Society, a forward thinking non-profit agency with many successes working in social service delivery. Since completing his Masters in Education (Counselling) at the University of Victoria in 2008, he has been honoured to work with a wide variety of individuals and families in his private counselling practice.
Greg lives in Whistler, BC with his partner and his son. He enjoys travelling and yoga as well as many other outdoor recreational pursuits including skiing, surfing and mountain biking.

Your confidentiality is taken very seriously. All information you provide will be kept strictly confidential and will not be revealed to any third parties except:
A: Simply reach out and contact to book an appointment. You can book online through this website, you can send us an email, or give us a call. If you wish, you are welcome to send a background email in advance of your first session.
A: Counselling is a process which means it can take time. However, we generally subscribe to a short term model which is designed to get to heart of the matter and develop goals and strategies quickly in an effort to get you back to yourself. Oftentimes, this is 2-6 sessions. If you have extended benefits, sessions are often capped at a certain amount which we are obliged to respect however you would be welcome to seek further counselling outside of the insurance provider. Many clients schedule regular monthly or quarterly maintenance sessions.
A: Psychotherapy is not covered by MSP in British Columbia. However, it is covered by many extended benefits providers associated with many employers in BC. I am a registered provider with most extended benefits providers.
A: You will be charged a rate of $175 per 50 minute hour for Individual sessions and $225 for Couples/Family counselling for the 50 minute hour. These rates are suggested by the BCACC. Should cost be an issue, there are a number of subsidy programs that we can refer you to and are happy to offer a sliding rate scale for those who qualify. Corporate rates do apply (please enquire). Please contact us directly for more information. There is a 24 hour cancellation notice required. If you do not provide this notice, the full rate will be charged or in the case of a late cancel, a $75 fee will be charged.
